Bill Male Portrait of a Woman

La Prairie, Quebec. C. 1990. While much of Male’s work celebrates the warmth of friendship, family, and rural community, his solitary figures reveal a more introspective side. Here, a woman in a brilliant red dress sits alone beside an oil lamp and clock, her quiet pose and gaze toward the window conveying the sense of waiting and gentle melancholy that recurs in these intimate portraits. Signed, "Bill Male", lower right.
