The artist served as a war artist during World War I. Despite his membership in the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts during the Nazi era, some of his works were classified as “degenerate art.” Berndt’s style features Impressionist and Expressionist elements, as well as, later on, those of New Objectivity; today he is counted among the artists of the “lost generation.”*This is an automatically generated translation from German by deepl.com and only to be seen as an aid - not a legally binding declaration of lot properties.
