An important monograph by Otto Benesch (1896–1964) devoted to German Renaissance painting, from Dürer to Holbein, with a study of the evolution of Germanic painting in the 15th and 16th centuries and its principal representatives. Extensive color illustrations, including numerous full-page reproductions by Dürer, Grünewald, Holbein, Strigel, and the leading German masters of the period. Bibliography and index.
