Rare Large Green Glass Cheese Dome with Farmhouse Relief – Pressed Glass – Circa 1920-1940 Description A rare and highly impressive two-piece cheese dome, executed in heavy olive green pressed glass with a beautifully artisanal character. Around the upper edge of the cap are six detailed relief medallions with a classic bucolic/rural theme. What is particularly distinctive and rare about this edition is the depiction of cows being milked by a farmer, alternating with other farm animals. Whereas standard glass domes are often tight or feature simple geometric motifs, this specific figurative decoration of an artisanal milk scene makes this piece especially rare and very prized among collectors of antique glassware. The glass exhibits lovely characteristic air bubbles and casting traces that testify to the authentic pressed glass process from the early to mid-20th century (probably Western Europe / France or Germany). Note: The apples shown in the dome are for illustrating the generous proportions and the contents of the dome and are not part of the auction.
