Bell currency, Dowayo village, Cameroon, 20th century

Descriptio Wrought iron. Dimensions: 105 × 44 × 18 cm. A unique traditional metal piece from the Dowayo people of northern Cameroon, used as a form of ceremonial currency and a symbol of social status. These large bells, with their deep sound, also served in marriage rituals and as dowry, in addition to representing wealth and prestige within the community. The surface retains a beautiful ferruginous patina that testifies to its age and ritual use. Provenance: private collection. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
