Bat dance mask. Nahua people, Mexico. 19th–20th century

Bat dance mask. Nahua people, Mexico. 19th–20th century

Descriptio Hammered copper. Dimensions: 39 × 30 × 4 cm. Ritual mask made of hammered copper, used in ceremonial dances of the Nahua people, where the bat figure holds symbolic meanings associated with night, transformation, and the spiritual world. The piece stands out for its formal expressiveness and the handwork of the metal, which lends dynamism and character to the face. This type of mask combines indigenous tradition and artisanal metalworking techniques, constituting a remarkable example of Mexico’s ritual material culture. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
