Ker's fine plates were based on a group of drawings by Chinese artists collected by Andreas Everard van Braam-Houckgeest whilst working for the Dutch East-India Company, and later in the collection of the horticulturalist William Cattley. The work is dedicated to Joseph Banks. Provenance: Thomas Hay, CVO, VMH, who was superintendant of the Central Royal Parks, which included Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street, from 1922 to 1942. His collection of botanical books passed by descent to his son Roy Hay, a horticultural journalist and broadcaster, who is probably best remembered for having started the Britain in Bloom campaign. The book collection was sold after his death in 1989, his family retaining a few books.
