Baldwin Gardiner was a trained silversmith and retailer, who opened a furnishings warehouse in New York City in the late 1820s, in addition to taking on a silver manufactory a few years later. Not all silver stock was produced in house. Stylistically, this ewer is attributable to the Philadelphia firm Fletcher and Gardiner, which was co-founded by his brother Sidney Gardiner. The pieces commissioned from Fletcher and Gardiner bear the Baldwin Gardiner stamp. In his own words: “I should expect to have my name stamped upon the bottoms.” Very good condition. Dimensions: H 14 3/8 x W 10 1/4 x D 6 in. Weight: 46.7 troy ounces. #CD373
