BABELAY (Jean-Louis) — ONE YEAR BABELAY (Jean-Louis). One Year. Text by A.-G. Leroux. Photographs by Roger Schall, Maurice Jarnoux, Raymond Mejat, Morgoli, and news agency photographers; engraving by Élie Bertillot. Paris, Éditions Raymond Schall, 1946. Quarto, black publisher’s hardcover, front cover titled “UN AN” in large letters, abundant black-and-white photographic illustrations. The BnF confirms the 1946 edition and the various credited photographers. IMPORTANT PHOTOGRAPHIC ALBUM ON FRANCE DURING THE LIBERATION AND THE IMMEDIATE POST-WAR PERIOD. The book offers a particularly vivid photographic account of the year following the Liberation: Allied soldiers in Paris, the civilian population, street scenes, demonstrations, ceremonies, the return to daily life, and the consequences of the war. The layout, which is very modern, makes extensive use of full-page photographs and photomontages. Condition: fair. The hardcover is heavily scuffed and scratched; the caps and spine are worn; there is damage to the spine and corners; the interior shows some foxing and signs of wear, but the photographs are generally well preserved.
