Beautiful Regula-period sculpture titled "La Rencontre" (The Meeting) – Auguste Moreau Style (Late 19th / Early 20th Century) Fascinating antique sculpture in regula (alloy of zinc/antimony) with a refined brown patina that mimics the nuances of ancient bronze. The piece is historically identified with the title "La Rencontre" (The Meeting) and depicts a romantic, pastoral scene: a young couple in traditional rural attire caught in a moment of understanding. The young man holds a basket full of fruit with his left hand, while the girl is shown in an elegant, poised movement, with the drapery of her dress finely detailed to emphasize the dynamic pose. From stylistic and iconographic viewpoints, the subject fits squarely within the famous output of the French sculptor dynasty Moreau (notably Auguste Moreau), undisputed masters of decorative sculpture during the Belle Époque and the Art Nouveau period. The internal base structure is hollow and shows the typical grayish surface of regula castings of the era. No signatures or marks are visible on the base. Thanks to the considerable metal thickness, the object has a substantial weight relative to its size, a sign of excellent construction quality for its time. The metal frame is perfectly solid and free from cracking, breaks, or missing parts. It shows only the minor signs of age typical of a 130-year-old work.
