Atlas Mercator-Hondius - The atlas known as “Mercator-Hondius” continues the work of Gerard Mercator, whose copper plates were acquired by Jodocus Hondius in 1604. This French edition of 1633 is signed by his son Henricus Hondius and his son-in-law Joannes Janssonius, who augmented it with new maps. Jan Jansson – Jan Jansson (Johannes Janssonius, 1588-1664) was a Dutch publisher and cartographer, born in Arnhem and active in Amsterdam. He was the son-in-law of Jodocus Hondius, whose heirs later took over the plates of Mercator’s atlas. He ensured its dissemination under his imprint from the 1630s, then published his own large atlas (Atlas Novus, then Atlas Major).
