Beautiful copy of this work, with an additional suite of Carzou's illustrations - signed. One of only 50 on tinted Arches paper with an additional suite of the illustrations to the rear. From a total limitation of 255 copies. The Arches copies are numbered between 56 and 105. This is number 62. Illustrated slipcase cover. Inside the box is a a print signed by Carzou, this is reproduced by gilt and glitter embossing on the black cloth publisher's slipcase, in a black cloth folder. Very good clean condition. There are 20 copper engravings "à la pointe sèche et au rubis": frontispiece, 9 full page plates bearing the publisher's dry stamp under the plate, 6 smaller format but full page plates and 4 in-text plates. Copy 62 signed by Carzou in graphite and with the embossed stamp / dry stamp of his signature, with a suite of illustrations in black. These are the same as the illustrations throughout the work, but do not have the embossed stamp on them. Unpaginated but circa 50 pages plus plates. 40 x 30 cm. Jean Carzou (1907–2001) was a French painter, lithographer and book illustrator of Armenian origin. His style is characterised by meticulous line, architectural fantasy and a poetic, sometimes surreal atmosphere. Arthur Rimbaud (1854–1891) was a French poet whose brief, astonishing period of writing transformed modern poetry. He is especially associated with Symbolism, but his experiments with imagery, prose poetry and language also helped anticipate Surrealism and later modernist literature. Rimbaud’s visionary prose poems with 20 original drypoints by Carzou. This is one of the deluxe copies on tinted Arches with an extra suite of the plates, and it’s signed by the artist. Les Illuminations is the most radical of Rimbaud’s works In 1955, a Connaissance des Arts poll named Carzou as one of the ten best painters of the post-war generation. The plates comprise a frontispiece, 9 full-page plates, 6 smaller full-page plates and 4 in-text plates, plus the separate suite in black.
