Polychrome Faience Casing / Fountain Border Element – Spain – circa 1900 Rare architectural element shaped in polychrome glazed terracotta (basin edge / fountain or balustrade border). Typology: Massive structural molding piece featuring a glazed convex face and a hollowed back into a groove (to be set into mortar) designed to be sealed into masonry. Decoration & Technique: Stylized baroque decoration painted by hand with high-fired glaze on stannifer enamel (ochre yellow, cobalt blue, copper green and manganese). The motif consists of cut leather, ironworks, acanthus motifs and geometric finials. Origin & Period: Spain (Seville / Triana or Talavera de la Reina workshops), period of the regionalist Neo-Renaissance / Neo-Baroque style (late 19th – early 20th century, circa 1880–1920). Context: From a decorative water masonry assemblage (pila / garden or plaza fountain). Notes: Bright colors and rich glaze luster. Traces of original mortar, back-fitting fractures and anchoring wear attest to its authenticity and its removal from a mural element. Some slight chipping and glaze loss on the more exposed peripheral edges.
