Beautiful presentation with emblematic illustrations and decorated margins. Cancelled sheet in Nantes on May 28, 2021, perforations and margins preserved. Good overall condition. Saint-Exupéry – The Little Prince. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry – Gallimard NRF illustrated edition by the author – Print run of June 20, 1956. A fine copy of one of the most emblematic works of 20th-century literature, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, in a Gallimard NRF edition printed in Paris in November 1956 by Imprimeries Paul Dupont. The work retains its famous illustrated cover showing the Little Prince on his asteroid as well as the delicate color watercolors created by Saint-Exupéry himself. This edition reproduces the entire original text accompanied by the illustrations that have become universally famous: the Little Prince and the migratory birds, the baobabs, the weathering of the volcanoes, the desert snake and many poetic scenes that helped make this work a timeless masterpiece. The presented copy has its original illustrated cover, though with some signs of wear visible, light stains and traces of time. The interior remains particularly appealing with fresh and bright illustrations, well-preserved paper, and an overall presentation very pleasing for a post-war edition. The binding is slightly slack. The printing note states, “Printed on the presses of Imprimeries Paul Dupont, in Paris, November 1956” which precisely places this impression among the early post-war printings of the famous philosophical tale. Antoine de SAINT-EXUPÉRY, The Little Prince. Paris, Gallimard – NRF, 1956. 1 illustrated octavo volume, 22.5 cm x 16.5 cm. Full text illustrated with numerous color watercolors in the text by the author. Original cover preserved, the spine is clean. Printed November 1956. Overall satisfactory condition, cover slightly worn, small losses at back corners, interior fresh, illustrations well preserved, complete copy, except spine partly detached and binding slack. First published in French after the war in 1946, The Little Prince is Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s most famous work and one of the most translated books in the world. The first Gallimard editions from 1946–1956 are highly sought after by collectors due to their proximity to the original French edition and the quality of reproduction of the author’s original watercolors. This 1956 print run represents a particularly interesting testament to the early editorial successes of the book in France, just a few years after Saint-Exupéry’s death in 1944. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry – The Little Prince. Original illustrations by the author. Gallimard NRF – November 1956 edition. First post-war print run illustrated in color. The photos are an integral part of the description. Shipments by Chronopost or other carrier depending on destination, with insurance.
