Antique Morse telegraph in brass

Rare Imperial Morse Telegraph Receiver "Hasler & Escher" (Bern) – Late 19th Century History, Importance and Technological Context I present at auction a piece of extraordinary importance for the history of telecommunications and the collecting of scientific instruments: an authentic Morse telegraph receiver from the period, designed and finely crafted by the prestigious manufactory Hasler & Escher in Bern (Switzerland). This exceptional device represents the archetype of late 19th-century technology (situated between 1860 and the early 20th century). Instruments of this refined caliber were employed in major railway stations and central telegraph offices for the reception and paper transcription of messages in Morse code, remaining in use in some sensitive networks until the mid-1950s. The apparatus is a triumph of 19th-century mechanical engineering, characterized by superb build quality: a frame entirely made of polished brass, high-precision gears, and components mounted on a solid, noble solid-wood base of the period. The device retains its characteristic adjustable dial, originally conceived to calibrate the intensity and precision of incoming electrical signals. The receiver is equipped with a recharging key not original but functioning (spring mechanism for driving the paper tape), a detail that greatly enhances the lot. Technical Sheet of the Lot Manufacturer: Hasler & Escher (Bern, Switzerland). Item: Morse System Telegraph Receiver. Era: Late 19th Century / Early 20th Century. Materials: Brass and Solid Wood. Accessories: Recharging key included. The item presents in generally good structural condition overall, solid and complete in its main elements, showing the magnificent patina of time. Being an antique collectible piece from a private residence, the apparatus has not been electrically or mechanically tested, therefore its operation is not guaranteed and it is sold as a historical object for display or restoration (if necessary). Currently the telegraph presents itself for cleaning, showing the time-induced opaqueness on the brass. However, thanks to the extraordinary quality of the original materials, a cleaning with specific brass and wood products will be sufficient to restore it to shine as a true museum jewel. Possible screws or other parts may be missing. Please review the extensive photo gallery carefully to assess the actual condition and the details of this rare scientific instrument. Due to the delicacy of the brass mechanics and the historical value of the lot, shipping will be handled as follows: The device will be isolated and wrapped in layers of bubble wrap and other materials, with internal protections, and placed in a rigid box. The shipping service will be entrusted to a leading international express courier with a tracking code provided immediately after departure and full insurance coverage for the entire winning value.
