Todas las subastas / Alfombras & textiles / Antique Kazak Rug, South Caucasus, late 19th century - 6 ft 10 in
Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugs Antique Kazak Rug, South Caucasus, late 19th century Size: 6 ft 10 in x 5 ft 1 in (2.08 m x 1.55 m) Provenance: Property of a New York dealer A handsome antique Kazak characterized by powerful geometric ornament and the confident use of contrasting color. Kazak rugs were woven in village communities across the South Caucasus. Their bold medallions, angular borders and deliberately simplified motifs give them a visual authority that appeals to collectors of tribal textiles as well as admirers of modern abstraction. Its balanced proportions and strong graphic presence make this example equally effective as both a floor covering and a wall-mounted textile. Condition Request Condition Report Lot #469 is in fair to good condition. The pile is mostly full and even with minor areas of wear visible. The two ends are complete and hand-secured and the sides are secured. There is no dryness in the foundation. The rug is clean and floor-ready.
