Antique Chinese Famille Rose Rectangular Footed Bowl –...

A beautiful and unusual antique Chinese famille rose porcelain rectangular footed bowl, possibly intended as an incense burner or offering vessel, probably dating to the late Qing Dynasty or early Republic period. This attractive piece features a distinctive rectangular form with elegantly flared sides, gently shaped corners and a raised pedestal foot. The exterior is finely hand-painted in delicate famille rose enamels with charming traditional Chinese scholar's objects and auspicious decorative motifs. The decoration includes elegant porcelain vases, flowering branches, miniature planters, ornamental objects, baskets and other traditional scholar's treasures, beautifully executed in shades of turquoise, pink, green, yellow and iron red. The various compositions are complemented by Chinese calligraphic inscriptions in black enamel and decorative iron-red characters around the raised foot. The interior is finished in a soft white glaze, while the underside features an iron-red square seal mark within a recessed base, surrounded by an unglazed foot rim showing natural signs of age. The unusual rectangular shape, attractive polychrome decoration and combination of traditional scholar's objects and calligraphy make this a particularly charming and collectible piece of Chinese porcelain. Condition: Excellent antique condition overall, with natural signs of age and use. There is one very small chip to the upper rim, slightly to the left of centre, as clearly visible in photograph 5. Minor glaze wear, surface marks and natural firing imperfections are also present. A beautiful and highly decorative example of antique Chinese famille rose porcelain, combining an elegant unusual shape with colourful traditional decoration and interesting Chinese inscriptions. Please carefully examine the photographs, as they form an integral part of the description.
