Antique Brooch with Turquoises and Diamonds in Gold, ca. 1880

Like a blossom made of gold and gemstones, this brooch from around 1880 unfolds. Its design is symmetrical yet inspired by nature. At its center is a large, oval turquoise. Surrounding it, additional gemstones are arranged like the petals of a blooming flower: natural turquoises display a luminous sky blue. In between, rose cut diamonds sparkle. The piece of jewellery is crafted from high-karat, warm-shimmering gold. The interplay of turquoise, diamonds, and yellow gold was particularly popular in the 19th century: the intense blue of the colored gemstones stands out strikingly against the golden background, while the diamonds lend the design a festive sparkle. We discovered the brooch in the Rhineland.
