At the end of the 19th century, Rococo, the art of lightness and refined taste, experienced a new fashion. Although the Ancien Régime had long since perished in the French Revolution, the courtly art of the time was now received with great enthusiasm. The bourgeoisie and also the nobility longed for a life that had seemingly been more carefree than their own present, without worries and in beauty. This piece of jewellery takes us back to this era, when Marie Antoinette strolled through the gardens of her peasant village in Versailles dressed as a shepherdess. We see the portrait of a lady with a large wig and even larger hat, finely painted in a round miniature. The brushstrokes are fragrant, delicate and quivering. Just like in the drawings of Rosalba Carriera or the paintings of Watteau. The gold frame surrounds the portrait with a wreath of shimmering pearls. The brooch from around 1890 is beautifully preserved and takes us on a journey through time to a land of carefree beauty.
