Antique Bar Brooch With White & Brown Diamonds in Platinum on Gold, c. 1925

Like glittering crystals of sugar, white diamonds are set next to fancy brown diamonds in the colour of cinnamon. This lends the otherwise simple, classic design of the bar brooch an inner tension and an individual character. Fine details typical of the period, such as edges lined with milgrains and precise, hand-sawn shadow gaps, round off the elegant appearance of the pin. The gem has even more to tell than is obvious at first glance. For the cuts of the brown diamonds are older than those of the white ones: they were presumably taken from an heirloom and are here in secondary use. This was quite common in the past. But it happened particularly often in the Art Deco era, from which this pin also comes, because jewellery fashion changed so fundamentally that many older pieces became downright unwearable for fashion-conscious ladies. Even today, the pin invites versatile, creative use, for example on the lapel, on the tie or on the scarf. It is is in very good condition. According to its design and workmanship, it was probably made in Germany.
