Antiek tabakskistje ‘Tabac’ – warm houtfineer en twee...

Antique tobacco box “Tabac” – warm wood veneer and two inner panels – probably 19th century Small in size, rich in character. This charming tobacco box combines an understated form with fine details: warm brown wood veneer, a delicate trimming on the lid, and the ornate inscription “Tabac” in contrasting golden letters. The wood grain is the main decoration. The rounded lid edge and the oval, brass-colored key plate give the box a well-groomed appearance. A atmospheric object that recalls the time when tobacco was kept at home in a box specifically for it. A glimpse into the smoking culture of yesteryear Under the hinged lid are two removable wooden inner panels, each with a small button. In historic tobacco boxes, such inner lids helped shield the contents and limit drying out. The presence of both panels makes this specimen particularly interesting. The French word “Tabac” means tobacco and clearly refers to the box’s purpose. The inscription alone does not prove French origin. Based on the construction and compared examples, the box is probably from the nineteenth century.
