Five-volume illustrated collection of this vast historical synthesis intended to embrace the political, military, institutional and social evolution of France from its origins to the upheavals that lead to the February 1848 revolution - Heir to Anquetil's historical work, the volume is extended and updated by de Norvins in order to carry the narrative far beyond the period initially treated, up to a time almost contemporary to its publication - This continuity gives the whole ensemble a particularly interesting dimension, because the early volumes rest on a still largely classical conception of national history, centered on sovereigns, wars, great families and institutions, while the parts devoted to the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries give increasing prominence to political transformations, revolutionary movements and regime changes - Anquetil & M. de Norvins - Histoire de la France par Anquetil continuée par M. De Norvins et complétée jusqu'à la révolution de février 1848 - 1855/1858 - Tome I, II, III, IV, et V - Furne et Cie - 659,607,646,653, 753 Pages. Good condition of bindings, works in their original brown half-leather morocco, marbled covers, wear from use, some minor defects on the covers, parts of the title pages and volumes damaged, heads chipped, joints and corners worn, speckled edges, spine with faux nerves, gilded titles and volumes on red morocco pieces - Good interior condition, some stains, beautiful vignette on the title page, works enriched with numerous black-and-white engravings in and out of text including on the frontispiece, endpapers in fair condition, pleasing and agreeable - Delivery service provided within a few days –
