Ancient Roman Terracotta Exceptional Gallo-Roman...

Exceptional and strange Gallo-Roman votive statuette, showing a terracotta motherhood with traces of lead glaze in a cream color. Statue of a naked woman displaying all the characteristics of ugliness, a sort of antithesis representation of the goddess Venus. She is of advanced age, hunchbacked, the head elongated with a bonnet-style headdress, thick lips, a prominent nose, gigantic eyebrows. Her buttocks are rounded, her breasts sagging. She supports with both hands a belly deformed by pregnancy. Next to her stands a young child, the oversized genitals placed on her leg. A truly unique piece of its kind! Gallo-Roman period, 2nd century CE. Beige terracotta with traces of lead glaze in cream color. The only glazes known in the Gallo-Roman period are the lead glaze coatings of the Allier valley. Height 19.4 cm - width 6.2 cm Good condition - slight restoration Provenance information: France, SVV B.M.R.
