Ancient Roman

Roman bronze discoidal fibula with concentric decoration – 2nd–3rd centuries A.D. Culture: Roman. Period: Roman Empire, 2nd–3rd centuries A.D. Material: Bronze. Auction description: Elegant Roman bronze discoidal fibula, belonging to the tradition of small personal adornments used during the Roman Empire to fasten cloaks and other garments. It features an attractive circular design, led by a small central relief button, surrounded by a well-defined concentric ring. The outer area incorporates various recessed geometric fields, arranged radially, which provide balance and ornamental richness to the composition. This type of fibulae represents an interesting manifestation of Roman metalwork, in which craftsmen combined functionality and decoration through geometrically elegant forms. The piece preserves a beautiful green archaeological patina, with turquoise, ochre tones and mineral deposits that accentuate the reliefs and contribute notable aesthetic appeal. Condition: Good conservation of the ornamental disk, with visible concentric decoration, surface wear and an attractive antique patina.
