Ancient Roman

Silver-plated metal pendant encapsulated, for better preservation, featuring the Antoninianus of Marcus Aurelius Probus, who reigned between 276-282 AD. Minted in Antioch. It is linked to a modern silver 925 cord-type chain. Obverse; bust of Emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus with beard, radiate crown, cuirass, and military cloak looking to the right. Legend "IMP C M AVR PROBVS P F AVG" - Emperor Caesar Marcus Aurelius Probus Pius and Happy Augustus - Reverse; Emperor Probus standing to the left, holding his sceptre and receiving a small Victory on a globe from the hands of the god Jupiter, to the right with his own long center. The mark XXl indicates the silver content proportion in the alloy during the era’s monetary reform (20 parts copper per 1 part silver) due to the Empire’s crisis. It ships with a legal declaration sheet. Customs duties outside the EU will be borne by the auction winner.
