Ancient Roman

Set of three bronze terminals or ferrules from the Roman period An interesting set of three small cast-bronze elements, of varying dimensions and typologies, likely conceived as ferrules, terminals or mounting accessories for furniture, chests, utensils or shafts. Two of the specimens feature an elegant balustrade profile, with globular bodies, constricted necks and carefully marked annular moldings. The axial cavities would allow insertion onto wooden or metal elements. One of them also retains a transverse fixing hole, probably intended to house a small pin that secured the assembly. The third element, cylindrical in shape, shows several concentric incised lines around the body and a wide central cavity, probably corresponding to a small ferrule or end collar. This type of bronze fittings is part of the broad family of functional and decorative accessories used in Roman furniture and domestic objects, where turned moldings and balustrade profiles were common. Roman furniture terminals expressly described with this type of configuration are also known. Proposed chronology: Roman period, approximately 1st–3rd centuries AD. Material: copper alloy / bronze. Number of pieces: 3. Measurements: from 15 × 14 mm (smallest) to 37 × 17 mm (largest). Status: archaeological conservation, with dark patina, deposits and surface wear typical of antiquity.
