Ancient Roman

Roman bronze discoidal brooch with decoration – 2nd–3rd centuries AD. Culture: Roman. Era: Roman Empire, 2nd–3rd centuries AD. Material: Bronze. Auction description: Elegant Roman discoidal brooch made of bronze, belonging to the tradition of small personal adornments used during the Roman Empire to fasten mantles and other garments. It features an attractive circular design, led by a small central button in relief, surrounded by a well-defined concentric ring. The exterior area incorporates various radially arranged recessed geometric fields, which provide balance and ornamental richness to the composition. This type of brooch constitutes an interesting manifestation of Roman metallurgy, in which craftsmen combined functionality and decoration through elegant geometric shapes. The piece retains a beautiful archaeological green patina, with turquoise tones, ochres and mineral deposits that accentuate the reliefs and add notable aesthetic appeal. Conservation status: Good conservation of the ornamental disk, with visible concentric decoration, surface wear and attractive ancient patina.
