Chinese Qingbai Porcelain Horse with Grooms – Northern Song Dynasty – 10th to 12th Century AD A finely modeled Chinese Qingbai porcelain group from the Northern Song Dynasty, dating to the 10th to 12th Century AD, depicting a saddled horse standing foursquare upon an integral rounded base accompanied by two grooms. The horse is represented with its head raised and ears pricked, wearing an elaborate modeled bridle and harness, while a saddle cloth is carefully draped across its back. The two attendants stand alongside the animal, dressed in tunics and trousers, their raised arms and upward-turned faces creating a lively sense of interaction with the horse. The entire composition is covered in a characteristic pale ice-blue Qingbai glaze, displaying areas of fine craquelure and warm burial deposits that accentuate the sculptural details. Qingbai ware, celebrated for its translucent bluish-white glaze, was among the most distinctive ceramic traditions of the Song period.
