An Art Deco maple bookcase

with a pair of central cupboard doors flanked by shelves to either side and raised on a plinth base 123 x 152 x 39cm, Commissioned by Miss Marjorie Templer in 1932 before her marriage in the same year, for the modernist house 'Starlock' in Rye, Sussex, designed by Frank Scarlett (1900-1981) and featured in The Architectural Review, October 1932, Condition Report Large chip to the base of the right hand door 2.5cm x 2cm. Otherwise in largely good condition consistent with age and use. Minor losses to the veneer to the extremities, the largest is 1cm x 0.75cm on the left hand edge, other smaller chips approx 0.5mm x 0.5mm in 5 other places. No key present. Historically the left hand door has either dropped or shrunk and there is an additional piece along the top of the door. The doors do not easily sit flush when closed. Numerous surface scratches to the top, and patches of missing waxed polish. Colour is even across the front, but slightly darker to the sides where the colour is richer. Please see further images.
