His works, characterized by an elegant yet melancholic mood, are among the most significant contributions to modern art of the early 20th century. Modigliani is often associated with other avant-garde and expressionist artists. Chaim Soutine, a close friend of Modigliani, is known for his passionate and distorted depictions. Pablo Picasso, a central figure in modern art, influenced Modigliani with his cubist experiments. Other important contemporaries such as Moïse Kisling, known for his colorful portraits, and Jules Pascin, who also created intense and expressive figure painting, are often mentioned in the same breath as Modigliani. Artists such as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, whose portraits of Parisian nightlife display a similar expressive power, and Constantin Brâncuși, whose sculptures are characterized by a simplified but intense formal language, also belong to Modigliani's artistic environment.
