Todas las subastas / Arte contemporáneo / Alessio Mazzarulli - Not your doll - 41 (n.747)
ot your doll - 41 (n.747) Measurements are: - collage: 50.00 x 40.00 cm Acrylic painting on shredded paper on canvas I create paintings using acrylic colors and thousands of small recycled paper pieces: everyday paper turns into art instead of ending up in the trash. In my latest works I have focused on the theme of women treated as objects (dolls) and too often victims of violence, and these are the latest pieces I have created. On these little paper pieces you can read scattered words and phrases here and there. Often it happens this way when we truly approach another person: sometimes we perceive their secret messages, sometimes not. "Not your doll" - "I am not your doll" is a series where I intend to represent female faces with features reminiscent of the most classic dolls and the message is: "even if I look like a real doll, I am not a doll, your doll, and you can do whatever you want with me" with everything that lies behind, up to, unfortunately, violence. The surface features small reliefs and I like to caress it, to feel it... I also use acrylic resin on the surface, which gives a shiny effect and protects the colors from sunlight and dust. This work is unique and original. Every piece is securely packaged, wrapped and protected for worldwide shipping, with the Certificate of Authenticity included. A tracking number is provided for shipping. This work will be shipped unframed and unstretched as the piece will be shipped rolled. The canvas is larger than the painted dimensions because the greater surface will be useful and necessary to stretch the canvas on a frame. It is advised to have the work stretched and mounted by a trusted professional, who can also advise you on a possible suitable frame. Images showing the work in interior settings are for illustrative purposes only and the proportions may appear different. The actual dimensions are those indicated in the description. Different light sources can give different colors to the photos. For more photos and information, contact me! Thank you. *** IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR INTERNATIONAL BUYERS (NON-EU): Customs duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping costs. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. The amount should be between 10% and 20% of the artwork's value. Born in 1974, I am self-taught. After an initial period devoted to sculpture there was a long pause lasting almost twenty years. Since December 2014 I resumed with the "two dimensions" for time and space reasons, leaving sculpture aside and dedicating myself to acrylic paintings. I love painting abstract landscapes but recently I am also pushing to paint faces of people both imaginary and real. For me painting is "capturing time" in that exact moment; my painting is often a faded memory and therefore my works are "worn, eroded by time." Sometimes the subjects of my paintings are sections of walls also eroded by time, with moss and mushrooms that - over time - grow on the surface. Time passing inexorably is the main theme of my works. Coming from a wonderful experience with clay manipulation, I love sculpture, the third dimension, the sense of touch, and my paintings are often characterized by reliefs well perceptible to touch and to the naked eye. Recently, after several years in which my works were made from small pieces of recycled paper forming figures, I am pushing myself to explore Optical Art where I use painted wood discs arranged in lines and grids repeated with mathematical rigor that up close seem to form an abstract, all-colored painting but the more you move away, the more a portrait figure emerges made up of many painted wood discs. Violence against women is a theme that characterizes almost all of my works when I reproduce female faces, precisely to give them a voice when they do not have the strength or courage to denunciate the fact that they are not their partner's dolls and they cannot be mistreated or, worse, victims of violence.
