Agostino Bonalumi (1935–2013) - Estroflessione

Agostino Bonalumi - Senza Titolo - 3D Relief & Silkscreen (Estroflessione) - Edition VIII/XXX Description Up for auction is a graphic work by the Italian painter Agostino Bonalumi (1935–2013). This piece is a quintessential example of his lifelong exploration of the boundary between painting and sculpture. • Technique: Color silkscreen with estroflessioni (3D relief structures) on heavy cardstock (cartoncino). • Dimensions: 70 x 50 cm. • Edition: Limited edition of only 30 copies, numbered VIII/XXX in pencil. • Signature: Hand-signed in full by the artist ("Bonalumi") in pencil on the bottom right. • Condition: In absolute mint condition. The work has never been framed, has been stored flat, and remains pristine with vibrant colours and crisp paper edges. • Year: 1988 Special Note: The characteristic relief shapes in the heavy cardstock create a dynamic play of light and shadow, defining Bonalumi’s mastery of spatial art. About the Artist: Agostino Bonalumi and the ZERO Movement Agostino Bonalumi recognizing the end of the propulsive thrust of informal art, he collaborated with the magazine Azimuth which proposed the total elimination of the previous artistic experience and a new beginning, based on a new pact with social progress. This zeroing was carried out by Manzoni, Castellani and Bonalumi with the use of monochrome canvases (often totally white), extroverted with various techniques in order to create effects of iridescent light and shadow with the inclination of the light source. The work of Agostino Bonalumi, is imaginative and always new in the creation of new and original plays of light and shadow. Particular attention should be paid to the work of the seventies and eighties, with perspective shadows contrary to the directions of normal light sources, creating a disorienting effect, this approach is to be explained as an element of rupture to traditional pictorial standards. Bonalumi participated in the Biennale in the years 1966 and 1986. In 2002 he presented the work environment at the Guggenheim Museum in Venice. In 2001 he was awarded the prize of the President of the Republic. In 2006 he received the Artist of the Year Award Agostino Bonalumi was a key figure in the international network of avant-garde artists that included the ZERO group (Germany) and the Nul group (Netherlands). While he was never an official member of either, he was a "spiritual brother" whose work and philosophy were deeply intertwined with theirs during the 1960s. The Concept of 'Estroflessione': Bonalumi became famous for his estroflessioni: techniques where he stretched and deformed the surface of the canvas or paper from behind. This broke the barrier between 2D and 3D. This specific work on heavy cardstock demonstrates this spatial principle on paper. Shipping Note for Buyers: The work will be shipped flat in a highly secure, reinforced wooden and double-layered cardboard package. It will not be rolled to ensure the 3D relief structures remain perfectly intact. The pictures try to reflect the exact colours of the work but can vary somewhat from the original as they are taken with a smartphone.
