Created during the period of the celebrated papiers découpés, the work presents a standing female figure reduced to bold planes of blue, yellow, green, pink and black, transforming the body into a rhythmic construction of colour, line and decorative balance. The composition reflects Matisse’s extraordinary ability to create intensity through apparent simplicity. The figure is frontal and monumental, yet graceful and light, placed within a flat interior-like space where plant forms, colour blocks and abstract shapes interact with the body.
