Descriptio Dan Mask – A Dan mask from Liberia or Ivory Coast, whose oval, polished shape incorporates plant fiber, carved wood, and metal: a classic expression of the aesthetic tradition that has made Dan masks some of the most studied and admired in all of African visual culture. Culture/Period: Dan people, Liberia/Ivory Coast — late 19th/early 20th century. Type: Face mask. Material: Wood, plant fiber, metal. Dimensions: 22 × 17 × 14 cm.
