ACKERMANN, MAX (1887-1975) "Ladenschluss"

ACKERMANN, MAX (1887-1975) "Ladenschluss"

Kaltnadelradierung auf Papier. Plattenmaße: ca. 27 x 32 cm. Unten links mit Bleistift bezeichnet: Ladenschluss. (Probedruck.). Unten rechts vom Künstler signiert: Max Ackermann. In ausgezeichneter Gesamterhaltung. Rahmen, HxB: 64 x 50 cm. | ACKERMANN, MAX (1887–1975) “Closing Time” Drypoint etching on paper. Plate size approx. 27 × 32 cm. Inscribed in pencil lower left: “Ladenschluss” (“Closing Time”) (trial proof). Signed by the artist in pencil lower right: Max Ackermann. The compelling composition transports the viewer into the world of late Expressionism and the Veristic New Objectivity of the 1920s – an important period in Ackermann’s oeuvre, characterized by precise powers of observation and psychological intensity. In the foreground, an elegantly coiffed woman is seen applying lipstick, gazing melancholically past the viewer. Beside her stands a substantial rotary-dial telephone. Through a doorway, the space opens onto a rear room, where two figures linger beneath a wall clock. With great narrative precision, Ackermann captures the passage of time and the anticipation of closing time. The composition is distinguished by a magnificent, strong, deep-black impression with pronounced burr. As a trial proof preceding the edition, the work is of particular appeal and rarity. In excellent overall condition. Framed, H × W: 64 × 50 cm.
