Rare and authentic pair of twisted manillas with 3 lugs, money bracelets, a magnificent prestigious adornment. A detailed description will be provided later, but for now I will give you an overview of the set of 24 listings for objects whose provenance remains exceptional, a scientific and primitive art treasure. Discover among my 24 listings a unique historic ensemble, remains intact and preserved within my family for over 70 years, because an former family member worked at the prestigious Bureau of Geological and Mineral Research (BRGM) during the 1950s. These pieces are part of a spectacular field collection. The collection is documented by its wooden transport case with colonial BRGM Natitingou-Dahomey inscriptions, the former name of present-day Benin; it is also documented by an exceptional set of 26 geological maps with explanatory notes dating from surveys conducted between 1935 and 1961. Among my 24 sales you will find an exceptional King Manilla weighing over 3.8 kg. Each lot (24 in total) is a fragment of this historic geological expedition. Magnificent pairs of brass or bronze manillas, originating from West Africa (Burkina Faso), which served as prestige adornments or as ethnic barter money. They are in the styles of Lobi/Gan/Mossi. Remarkable die-cutting and engraving work with traditional motifs, one weighing 404 grams and the other 498 grams. Their weights are quite remarkable; they are twisted with each containing 3 prongs from these twisting movements. Excellent original condition, in its era, with its original patina. Authenic collectible piece.
