recto and verso set with two miniatures, one of a lady in profile wearing a lace cap, by P C Gamps, the other a coastal landscape with dancing figures, by S M Lantara with gold acanthus-chased mounts, the interior with tweezers, scissors and an ivory slip, together with two miniatures of river landscapes, French School, late 18th century, verre fixe, set on the recto and verso of a vernis Martin Souvenir d'Amitié, lacquered in green, the gold mounts pierced with lovebirds, together with two miniatures of river landscapes, (2), 8.25 and 8.9cm high, Probably acquired by Cara Leyland Rogers Broughton, Baroness Fairhaven (1873-1930); thence by descent. Simon Mathurin Lantara (1729-1778) was an eminent French painter and engraver of the 18th century. Of a retiring nature, little is known of his life, however, after his death, two of his paintings were exhibited at the Salon de la Correspondance.
