This Box has an oblong form with rounded ends. Both the base, cover and sides display bands of crisp scratch and prick dot engraving, interspersed with roundels. The hinge is also beautifully concealed with engraved designs. The hinged cover opens up to reveal a finely gilded interior and very crisp hallmarks in the base and on the underside of the cover. Thomas Brough was apprenticed to William Barrett in 1788 and was free 5th August 1795. He entered his first mark in October 1795, as a small worker, with workshops at 29, New Street. He had premises at 50, Aldersgate when this box was made. This piece is of an unusual design and size and is in most excellent condition. Length: 2.25 inches, 5.63 cm. Width: 1.25 inches, 3.13 cm. Height: 0.55 inches, 1.38 cm.
