A Chinese bronze twin handled cooking vessel, Mou, Eastern Han Dynasty

A Chinese bronze twin handled cooking vessel, Mou Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25 - 220) of circular form approximately 35cm wide x 30cm deep x 19cm high Provenance: Formerly by repute from a private Monmouthshire collection The bronze mou (鍪) was a distinctive type of early Chinese cooking vessel primarily used for boiling meat and grain. Originally developed along the Yangzi River in today's Sichuan and Chongqing areas during the Warring States period, the vessel was later adopted across China since the 2nd century BC. Characterized by a slightly flared rim, a bulbous body, and a slighlty rounded bottom, the mou was designed for direct placement over an open fire or a portable stove. It typically features two symmetric loop ears or ring handles affixed to the shoulders, allowing it to be suspended or lifted easily. Compare a very similar mou vessel excavated from Yanwan Production Brigade, Changgu Commune, Longxi County, Dingxi City, Gansu Province, now currently on display in Gansu Provincial Museum. 東漢 青銅鍪 拍品來源:英國威爾士蒙茅斯郡私人收藏 Condition Report: erosion and with typical surface wear and oxidisation Condition Report Disclaimer, A Chinese bronze twin handled cooking vessel, Mou, A Chinese bronze twin handled cooking vessel, Mou Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25 - 220) of circular form approximately 35cm wide x 30cm deep x 19cm high Provenance: Formerly by repute from a private Monmouthshire collection The bronze mou (鍪) was a distinctive type of early Chinese cooking vessel primarily used for boiling meat and grain.
