A Breath of Spring - Gary Westall

A Breath of Spring by Gary Westall Painting 11.8 x 15.8 :: I painted this oil painting on canvas measuring 30 × 40 cm based on my own impression of a magnolia blossom. I was fascinated by the moment when the first buds open and spring becomes visible. I deliberately contrasted the delicate pink and white tones of the flowers with the cool green and blue tones of the background. The lines of the branches give the painting structure and depth and frame the flower in a natural way. When painting my aim was to capture this early quiet moment of blossoming clearly directly and without distraction. For me “A Breath of Spring” shows the moment when the transition between winter and spring becomes noticeable: quiet delicate and focused on detail. Signed lower right.
