536g Quartz Rock Crystal Skull – Jack Frost

When in late autumn the first clear frost night comes, according to English tradition Jack Frost is abroad. He is the frost in form: a being that pinches fingers and toes on cold nights, colors the leaves in autumn, and in winter draws fern-like ice flowers on the windowpanes while people sleep. His stories may go back to Anglo-Saxon and Nordic winter customs. In one book he first appears in 1732, in “Round About Our Coal Fire,” a collection of Christmas entertainments. Later authors made him a mischievous figure who plays pranks, or the son of the Frost King. This skull looks as if Jack Frost had worked on it all night. Its milky whiteness has inside it shattered wild like crushed ice, and the light refracts within it in every direction differently. Large, almost parallel fracture planes cut through the stone. Between them, untold, nearly fractal tiny cracks branch out and connect the large ones in every imaginable way, just as ice flowers over night overgrow an entire pane. Underneath lie delicate pink and peach-colored veils, as if a bit of warmth were still shimmering through the ice. Fine rusty-red specks pepper it like the last leaves the frost has caught. A skull artfully crafted, in its own way. And yet this cold stone is not without fire. Quartz is one of the minerals that emit light when rubbed together; specialists call this triboluminescence. If you rub two pieces of quartz vigorously against each other in complete darkness, a light flares up between them. A frost that conceals a light within itself: A better head than Jack Frost himself could have imagined. Material: Quartz, predominantly milky quartz, with delicate pink to peach-colored zones and fine iron oxide specks (trade name “Quartz Rock Crystal”) Origin: Brazil Dimensions: 9.3 x 6.3 x 6.6 cm Weight: 536 g Special features: Milky-white quartz with a lively “crushed ice” inner structure; large, nearly parallel natural fracture planes with fine, branching cross-fractures reaching surface in several places, including across the right temple and the occiput; delicate pink veil; rusty iron oxide specks, especially on the left side of the skull
