Emidio Pepe – Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Colline Teramane DOCG 2022 Lot of 3 bottles of 0.75 L The 2022 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from Emidio Pepe is one of the most authentic and sought-after expressions of the great Abruzzo grape variety. Produced in Torano Nuovo, in the Colline Teramane, it stems from the artisanal philosophy that has made Emidio Pepe one of Italy’s most respected producers among lovers of traditional wines with great aging potential. For Emidio Pepe, Montepulciano represents the true “king” of the Abruzzo varieties: a grape capable of combining energy and immediacy in youth with extraordinary aging potential. Longevity has always been central to the winery’s philosophy, which keeps a significant portion of its production in underground cellars and releases it progressively over the years. The vintage 2022 The 2022 vintage was particularly interesting for the winery. After a hot and dry summer, rains starting at the end of July favored the final stage of phenolic ripening. Harvesting of Montepulciano began on September 22. According to the winery itself, the balance achieved by the grapes and the delicacy of vinification significantly characterize the wines of this vintage. The wine is made from 100% Montepulciano, from organic farming, as also stated on the bottle label. The production follows the traditional methods of the Pepe family: manual destemming, spontaneous fermentation without the addition of selected yeasts, and use of vitrified cement vats. Maturation takes place in the same containers for about 24 months. The wine is finally bottled unfined; manual decantation is one of the distinctive elements of the Pepe method. In the glass it presents a deep, intense ruby red. The bouquet, especially in youth, is dominated by the freshness of the fruit, with currant, sour cherry, and berries, accompanied by licorice, spices, and balsamic nuances. With bottle aging it can develop more complex notes of graphite, earth, and undergrowth.
