The estate is located in Gaiole in Chianti, Tuscany, with about 75 hectares of vineyards situated between 420 and 527 meters in altitude. Castello di Ama has been a key player in the valorization of the cru concept in Chianti Classico, identifying and vinifying separately the plots most suited to the property. The lot includes Vigneto La Casuccia 2019, Vigneto Bellavista 2019 and L’Apparita 2019: two Chianti Classico Gran Selezione from single vineyard and the estate’s famous Merlot in pure form. 1. Vigneto La Casuccia 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG Born in 1985, Vigneto La Casuccia is produced in extremely limited quantities and only in the best vintages. The vineyard is located at about 483–527 meters in altitude, on clay soils rich in skeleton. castellodiama.com The 2019 is composed of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot and matures for about 14 months in barrique, with a portion of new wood. It is the most powerful and deepest of the two great Chianti Classico single-vineyard wines of the estate: dark fruit, cherry, blackberry, spices, tobacco, aromatic herbs and balsamic notes accompany a substantial structure, deep tannins and a notable capacity for evolution. The 2019 vintage received exceptional recognition: 100/100 Vinous – Antonio Galloni, in addition to 97 Wine Advocate, 97 Falstaff, 96 Wine Spectator and 95 James Suckling. 2. Vigneto Bellavista 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG Vigneto Bellavista is one of Castello di Ama’s historic wines. The cru stems from the great valley that welcomes visitors to the estate and is produced from the best grapes of the vineyard since the late seventies. Castello di Ama has always considered it one of its reference wines. The 2019 is composed of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Malvasia Nera. It is precisely the Malvasia Nera that constitutes one of Bellavista’s distinguishing elements, giving the wine a floral, spicy and particularly elegant character. The maturation is about 14 months in barrique. In the glass, it combines power and refinement: wild cherry, dark fruits, pomegranate, tobacco, licorice, mineral and balsamic notes, with a substantial yet refined tannic texture and a long, complex finish. Bellavista is also produced only in the best vintages and in very limited quantities. For 2019 the international critics awarded 98 Wine Advocate, 97+ Vinous, 97 Wine Spectator, 96 James Suckling and 96 Falstaff. 3. L’Apparita 2019 Toscana IGT – 100% Merlot L’Apparita is probably Castello di Ama’s most iconic wine outside the Chianti Classico denomination. First produced in 1985, it is described by the company itself as the first Merlot produced in purity in Tuscany and has become over time a true cult wine. It originates from two plots located on the highest part of Vigneto Bellavista, at about 500 meters in altitude. The clay-rich soils and altitude contribute to give Merlot a particular combination of concentration, freshness and elegance. The 2019 is 100% Merlot. It is a deep and structured wine, with dark fruit, blackberry and cherry accompanied by notes of tobacco, chocolate, coffee, spices, incense and floral nuances. On the palate it shows great concentration, refined tannins and a structure intended for long bottle evolution.
