2018 Castiglion del Bosco

Brunello di Castiglion del Bosco is born from the uniqueness of the Capanna vineyard, located northwest of Montalcino. The vineyard’s distinctive features, including natural isolation, altitude, and soil—primarily characterized by the presence of clay slate—confer refined elegance and great personality to this precious wine. The 2018 vintage at Castiglion del Bosco: The 2018 vintage was a challenge for both man and vine. The cool, rainy spring made the vegetation very vigorous. Green cultivation required a lot of attention and work to allow the plant to reach vegetative balance. These climatic conditions continued into the first part of summer, characterized by cool days and abundant rains. The end of summer was warm and dry and this allowed good ripening, albeit slightly earlier than usual. In the first half of September, harvest began in the Gauggiole area, on the northern side of the estate. The grapes showed excellent acidity and a relatively low sugar content, perfect for fresher and more vibrant wines. The excellent varietal expressions and the very ripe tannins will give rise to a very recognizable Brunello, with a clear and unique style. Vinification and aging: Fermentation occurred at a controlled temperature (28°C) for 18 days. Aging took place in French oak casks (30-50 hl) and barrique for 24 months.
