The estate is renowned for its commitment to traditional winemaking methods, the careful expression of its terroir, and wines of consistent elegance that attest to the nobility of Nebbiolo and the wine heritage of Northern Italy. BAROLO Reserva: What kind of wine is it? Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Riserva is a still red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes, an authentic expression of Barolo Riserva. Its aromatic profile opens with frank notes of violet and rose, blended with cinnamon and nutmeg, then evolves into tertiary aromas of tobacco, leather, and truffle. On the palate, it is dry, elegant, and austere, supported by a substantial yet exceptionally silky tannic frame that can envelop the sip in harmony. Its solid structure makes it the ideal match for powerful, rich dishes, especially braised red meats, very aged cheeses, and traditional egg pâtes with truffle. How it is produced Winemaking begins with destemming and gentle crushing, practices aimed at extracting only the most noble and aromatic part of the skins. Temperature-controlled fermentation involves skin contact of about ten days, supported by delicate punch-downs. After draining, the wine is transferred into special glazed concrete vats sealed with cork, ideal for retaining heat and promoting spontaneous malolactic fermentation. The long maturation process takes place over three years in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by an additional resting period that permanently stabilizes the complex sensory structure. History and anecdotes Founded in 1806 in the heart of the Langhe, Marchesi di Barolo winery highlights Nebbiolo by creating wines of exceptional longevity. The illustrious Barolo DOCG Riserva 2016 embodies this heritage, aging for three years in large Slavonian oak casks before a long bottle rest. Placed on the market six years after the harvest under the guidance of oenologist Marco Marsili, this noble red has earned prestigious international distinctions that attest to its absolute excellence and timeless charm. BARBARESCO Reserva: What kind of wine is it? Barbaresco Riserva della Casa, produced by Marchesi di Barolo, is an excellent Piedmontese red wine with DOCG status, made from Nebbiolo grapes. It presents a garnet red robe and an ethereal, complex aromatic profile, characterized by notes of tobacco, raspberry, violet, and spices, enriched by the characteristic tar scent. On the palate, it is rounded and elegant, supported by soft and balanced tannins that emphasize its solid structure, enriched by aging in oak casks. To fully appreciate its character, serve it between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius, paired with porcini pasta dishes, braised meats, and well-aged cheeses. Where does it come from This wine originates in Piedmont, in the heart of the Barbaresco zone, in the commune of Neive. The vineyards grow on compact clay-limestone soils that are impermeable, forcing roots to descend deeply in search of water. This condition promotes the development of loosely clustered grapes with small berries, guaranteeing high mineral concentration. Being a Riserva, the wine undergoes a aging process of at least five years and has aging potential that can exceed twenty years. How it is produced Harvesting is done manually to ensure rigorous grape selection. After destemming, temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in steel tanks, with about fifteen days of skin contact and frequent punch-downs for optimal extraction of color and aromas. The wine then rests in vitrified concrete tanks before aging in Slavonian and French oak casks, where it achieves its perfect harmony. The production cycle ends with a long final aging before commercialization. History and curiosities The label of this wine is distinguished by illustrations of historic buildings and an old coat of arms, elements that add a touch of tradition and heritage. Among the most interesting curiosities, this Barbaresco is released onto the market only after a minimum aging of five years from harvest and has aging potential in the cellar that can exceed twenty years. Its value is further evidenced by prestigious awards: 92 points from Wine Spectator and 91 points from Wine Enthusiast.
