In 2001, Suzuki released the third generation of the GSX-R600 – the big news was the addition of fuel injection, which helped bump horsepower up to 115 at 13,000 rpm. In addition, Suzuki’s engineers were able to shave 25 pounds of weigh from the previous generation. For 2002 the bike received a transmission update to address a gear-slipping issue present on the 2001 model, as well as a minor cosmetic update that included a new dual low-beam headlight setup.
