Southeast Asia, Myanmar (Burma), Mandalay period. A standing Buddha figure carved from a single block of wood. The oval face has arched brows, downcast eyes, and a smiling mouth, above an elongated body wrapped in monastic robes rendered in cascading folds. Traces of black and red lacquer remain on the surface, and the hem and sash retain rows of glass inlay set into thayo relief, with small mirrored discs and floral bands. The figure stands on a lotus base, with hands originally positioned in a lowered gesture. Images of this type were produced in the Mandalay region during the 19th century and served as focal points for merit-making, installed in shrines, monasteries, and household altars. Item # 203877
