1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible 'Epilogue Edition'

By 1979, Volkswagen was well along with their new generation of front-engine, water-cooled cars and the sun was setting on the beloved Beetle, the origins of which extended back to the 1930s. As a farewell salute to the German-constructed Beetles, a final run of 900 Karmann-bodied convertibles was produced, one for each US dealer. The cars were all finished in black over a black interior with a matching top, and each was equipped with a special woodgrain dashboard. Many of the cars were retained by the dealers, becoming nostalgic showroom display curiosities for generations of Volkswagen enthusiasts. This beautifully presented “Epilogue Edition” was delivered via Rader Volkswagen of Atlanta, Georgia, and remained with its long-term owner for 45 years. Robert Hogg III, an Atlanta resident, maintained a collection of cars, each one finished in black. Showing just 40 total miles at the time of cataloguing, this impeccably preserved Volkswagen was recently serviced with a fluid change and brake system maintenance, and has been professionally detailed by its current owner. Still wearing its original, date-coded wheels and whitewall tires, and accompanied by its window sticker, archival photographs, maintenance records, and correspondence, this pristine Super Beetle represents the end of an era, ready to grace its next owner’s collection with a sense of nostalgia and memories of a simpler time. car
