“An 8-cylinder in-line engine and a look to die for!” The Marmon Motor Car Company, founded in 1902 by Howard Marmon in Indianapolis, epitomised the excellence, luxury and technological innovation of the early 20th-century American motor industry. Before becoming a global benchmark for elegance with its cutting-edge engines, the brand cemented its place in motorsport legend thanks to a single model: the Marmon ‘Wasp’. Designed specifically for racing, this yellow and black single-seater with its streamlined silhouette made history by winning the very first Indianapolis 500 in 1911, driven by Ray Harroun. This car was built by Mecanic Import in Belgium. It is a tribute to the brand’s racing models, based on the ‘Petite Marmon’ and powered by an inline 8-cylinder engine. Subsequently sold to a French collector, the car has remained in the same collection for almost 20 years. During this time, numerous technical improvements have been made to the car.
