Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 39 x 28 cm each. This pair of paintings depicts various scenes of peasant revelry inspired by the pictorial tradition developed by Adriaen van Ostade, one of the most celebrated Dutch masters of the 17th century, specializing in genre scenes. The compositions show groups of figures gathered in rural settings, participating in popular celebrations, conversations, and anecdotal situations treated with a strong narrative sense. The portrayal of the peasants is imbued with a humorous and caricatured tone, a characteristic feature of painting inspired by Van Ostade, who was able to reflect with great humanity the customs, amusements, and weaknesses of daily life.
